One of the highlights of this diner is the menu, which is carefully curated to showcase the best of Middle Eastern flavors. Whether you’re a regular or visiting for the first time, it’s hard to resist the delicious aromas filling the air. The dishes here are designed to provide an authentic taste of the region, and everything, from the appetizers to the main courses, is made with fresh ingredients and a lot of love.

For starters, you might want to try the mezze platter, which is a fantastic way to sample a variety of dips and appetizers. The hummus is creamy and perfectly balanced, while the baba ghanoush offers a smoky, savory flavor that pairs wonderfully with warm pita bread. The tabbouleh, fresh and zesty, is the perfect balance to the richness of the other dishes.

When it comes to the main course, the grilled meats are definitely worth trying. The lamb kebabs are seasoned to perfection and cooked just right - tender and juicy, with a hint of char that adds extra depth to the flavor. If you’re in the mood for something lighter, the grilled vegetables are another great choice. Each bite is bursting with freshness, and the accompanying sauce adds a tangy touch that enhances the dish.

Taboun also excels in its approach to showcasing traditional dishes with a modern twist. One standout dish is their take on shawarma, which is made with perfectly spiced, slow-cooked meat. It’s served in a soft pita, along with pickled vegetables and garlic sauce that add a delightful contrast to the savory meat. It’s comfort food at its finest.

But it’s not just the food that sets Taboun apart; it’s the attention to detail and the dedication to quality. The restaurant’s commitment to using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients means that every dish not only tastes great but also supports the local community. • My favorite falafel and shwarma spot in SF. Great flavors and sauces. Food is ready fast! Inside has a some tables for a quick lunch, a few tables outside too. Super convenient for UCSF medical center visitors and employees/students. They've been here a long time and for good reason!

  • Do yourself a favor, especially if you're up the hill at the hospital instead of getting a doordash. Just take a little 3 minute down the hill and get the food here, fresh ingredients excellently prepared by a caring, warm staff. You can't go wrong, ask any of the doctors or nurses at UCSF. Insider tip, You're welcome!.....

  • Everything about this place is top notch. Service - family owned restaurant, and they care very much about you having a good experience. They went above and beyond to welcome us to the neighborhood. They were fast, friendly, and attentive to requests. Food - some of the best falafels, hummus, and babaganoush ive had. I ordered the vegetarian combo and it was huge portions and everything was so tasty, full of flavor... I had 2 meals in one! Ambiance - cute little restaurant, welcoming and warm décore, with enough space for groups of 2 to 6. I came with my family, and we all enjoyed the entire experience. This will be a staple restaurant for us. Will go back often!

  • We had the Chicken shawarma wrap, the Lamb-beef shawarma, Tabouleh salad and Falafel side. They were all tasty and freshly made. Prices are reasonable and service was excellent.

  • I’ve been coming to Taboun regularly for over 7 years and I can say with confidence that this one is the best Mediterranean places in SF at the price point. Upon entry you are greeting by the kind hard working ladies who have worked tirelessly to make this restaurant exceptional. It’s always spotless, the inside has a beautiful interior, and everything is made fresh. The best thing I can say is that this restaurant is always consistent. Not once has the meat been dry, overly salty, undercooked, etc. I’ve honestly never had a bad meal here, the kabobs are cooked fresh to order. This remains the best kofte I’ve ever had. I always get the dinner combo comes with your choice of 2 meats, 2 sides, and is severed with rice and pita for a very fair $20. This was one of the first middle eastern places I went to in SF, and over the years after trying many other ones, it still has kept its place near the top. When you walk in you feel a sense of comfort and that you are welcomed into their homes. The food is made with love, and it’s simply spectacular. If you’re near UCSF or cole valley, this should easily be your top pick.

  • Quaint cafe with big flavors in the food. All the standards like hummus, falafel and tabouleh are best un class. Meats, lavash wraps, and salads are generous portions for a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
